Refill: Already in 2020, the UKPACK company introduced an environmentally friendly cosmetic jar with a replaceable inner jar so that the end customer, after using the cosmetic, could only buy an inner jar, and leave the jar and cap for reuse. This solution saves as much as 80% of the weight of the entire packaging! UKPACK in cooperation with an independent research unit, conducted a comparative analysis for a line of a cosmetic jar with a replaceable inner jar made of various materials: standard plastic, bio-plastic and recyclable. The analysis showed the advantage of bio plastics and recycled plastics due to a smaller environmental footprint of up to 80% compared to the standard solution.
Bio-plastics
Packaging made of bio plastics is exactly the same in terms of use: they are fully recyclable in the existing collection system, they are comfortable and light. At the same time, they are not entirely made of petroleum material, but also of material of plant origin. By using bioplastics instead of traditional polymers, we reduce the environmental footprint, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere and the reduction of fossil fuel consumption. Our offer includes BIO plastic packaging such as BIO-PET and BIO-PP.
Recycling
Used plastic packaging is a valuable raw material that can be recycled. We do it at the beginning of the path – we recycle and process post-production waste. What is such waste? This is packaging that often has minor quality defects that do not affect the functionality of the package but are unacceptable to customers, e.g. fogging or streaks of color. All these items go to our internal recycling system, are properly sorted, ground and processed into new jars and bottles. In 2020, we achieved 95% recycling of polypropylene and polyethylene post-production waste.
LCA Life Cycle Assessment LCA analysis covers the entire product life cycle: from raw materials, through production, packaging, to use and the resulting waste and recycling. It allows to determine whether in a given application a specific material, e.g. for packaging, will be the least harmful to the environment. Currently, the LCA method is the most reliable method of environmental impact assessment. At UKPACK, we perform LCA analysises in cooperation with our clients.
